Research Strategy

The National Coral Reef Institute aims to conserve and restore the condition of coral reef ecosystems challenged by natural and human-accelerated changes. NCRI does this by conducting research that supports science-based management, sustainable use of coral reef ecosystems, and innovative solutions that benefit local communities and the nation.

NCRI's research portfolio utilizes a multi-faceted framework which incorporates existing strategic jurisdictional and national priorities as well as known coral reef research gaps. By prioritizing collaboration and information sharing, NCRI works to advance effective conservation efforts for coral reef ecosystems.

Our multi-faceted research framework includes: 

1. Identifying acute and chronic stressors

2. Understanding how these stressors disrupt coral reef ecosystems

3. Examining the human role in these disturbances

4. Developing strategies to mitigate and restore impacted coral reef ecosystems.
