The National Coral Reef Institute (NCRI) works to build capacity and coordination through Florida and the Caribbean by training graduates and undergraduates, hosting and participating in workshops and symposia, and collaborating within transdisciplinary teams to conduct vital coral reef research.
NCRI provides a direct link between researchers and resource managers by providing information and data needed to make sound policy and decisions. By concentrating on important and unique management and policy challenges, scientific contributions are made that better allow decisions on both local and national scales.
NCRI is housed at the Nova Southeastern University Oceanographic Center.
Center of Excellence for Coral Reef
Ecosystem Research
The NSU Oceanographic Campus’ hallmark facility is its 87,000 ft2 Center of Excellence for Coral Reef Ecosystem Research, which opened in 2012 and was partially funded by a $15M grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology. This state-of-the-art research facility features scientific laboratory space and equipment for 21 biological, chemical, physical, and geological marine research laboratories.
NSU’s Oceanographic Campus is located in Port Everglades and has a marina, allowing easy and quick access to the reefs of Southeast Florida.
